The Therapeutic Process

75% of clients improve after 26 sessions or 6 months of weekly therapy, regardless of the approach and around 35 to 65% of clients significantly improve after as little as 1 to 7 sessions!
Each case is unique and there are no two people or no two therapies alike. My goal is to take the time to get to know you in order to better adapt my approach and interventions to your needs.

This being said, typically, the therapeutic process begins with an evaluation phase. During the first evaluation sessions, I am looking to better understand the problem presented by the individual or couple, so as to proceed with the establishment of the therapeutic objectives. It is also during the evaluation phase that you will be able to see if you feel at ease and comfortable with me and my approach. It is important that you feel you are in a safe, welcoming and empathetic environment. The therapeutic alliance is one of the strongest predictors of therapeutic success, so this is a crucial stage of the process.

Once the objectives are set, a treatment plan is created together and the therapeutic process begins. The process includes developing an understanding of the problem and identifying the means and strategies to be used to achieve the goals, such as attaining a more satisfying sexual and interpersonal life. The tools and means used to reach your objectives can vary depending on the therapeutic approach. That being said, regardless of the approach, the aim stays the same: to help you meet your objectives and better your sexual, interpersonal and psychological wellness.

Finally, before ending therapy, you will have an assessment session to evaluate where you are in regards to your goals, what you have taken away from the therapy and verify if the therapeutic gains are maintained in your everyday life.

The sessions can take place in the context of an individual or couple’s therapy. The duration of therapy can vary from one client to the next, but you should be able to start seeing the benefits in less than a dozen sessions. In private practice, you should generally expect to pay between 80$ and 120$ for a 50 minute psychotherapy or sex therapy session, depending on the experience and expertise of the therapist. I provide receipts as a sexologist with a sexologist permit from the OPSQ and as a psychotherapist with a psychotherapist permit from the OPQ for reimbursement from certain insurance companies or for income tax purposes.

Please note that there is no approach that exists where the therapist can perform inappropriate physical contacts. The therapeutic interviews primarily consist of verbal exchanges that are focussed on communication between the client and the therapist.

Sexologists and psychotherapists must abide by the code of ethics of their professional orders: the sexologists Code of Ethics and the psychotherapists Code of Ethics.
